My Dad

My father was born in Colombia, and he moved to Spain when he was only 18 years old. He came here because he wanted to work and have a better future. By the way, he’s a truck driver, so he started working very hard from the beginning.

Moving to another country was not easy for him. When he arrived in Spain, he was completely alone. He didn’t have any family or friends to help him, so he had to do everything by himself. He had to adapt to a new country, find a job, work hard, and build a new life from nothing. I think that must have been very difficult, especially at such a young age.

One of the hardest parts of migration for him has always been being far away from his family in Colombia. Even today, he still misses them very much. He has missed many important moments, such as birthdays, family celebrations, and spending time with the people he loves. Being away from them still hurts him.

He still loves his country, but he cannot just go back to live there now because he have built a family here in Spain (his wife, my brother, and me).

His story has taught me that migration is not only about moving to a different country. It also means making sacrifices, working very hard and living with the sadness of being far from the people you love. At the same time, it shows that it is possible to build a new life and create a new home without forgetting your roots or the family you left behind and that makes me proud of everything my father has achieved.
